USC-Upstate Rolls Over PC
11-6
CLINTON, S.C.-
The Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team dropped a
non-conference decision to the visiting Spartans of
USC-Upstate, 11-6 Tuesday afternoon at the PC Baseball
Complex. With the loss PC falls to 11-28 for the season,
while Upstate improves to 18-15.
PC was the first to get on the board scoring one run in each
of the first three innings. Their first run early in the
first inning came when senior
Nick Hoffner (Ellicot City, Md.) drove in junior
Kyle Craven
(Savannah, Ga.) on a double.
Freshman Daniel Hill
(Matthews, N.C.) picked up an RBI in the second inning
when he scored senior
Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) on a single.
Upstate answered back with five run second inning. Upstate
capitalized on a PC error to gain their first two runs of
the game. Then scored two more runs on another PC. Brad
Wingo then singled to right field brining in Bret
Story for their final run of the second.
PC then took the lead in the fourth when Craven flied out to
centerfield and brought in senior
Evan Sowell (Chesterfield,
S.C.) to improve the score in the Blue Hose favor 6-5.
Upstate then capitalized on two more Blue Hose errors to
score four more runs. Wingo scored John Caddell on a
double hit down the right field line after Caddell reached
on an error. Wingo then scored on a single hit by Michael
Kohn. Hansen then scored on a single hit by Kyle
Bowley. Kohn then scored on a Josh Clark single
to cap off the inning.
PC was unable to regain the lead. Upstate then scored two
more runs in the sixth to set the final score at 11-6.
PC starter
Andrew Cockerham (2-2) got the loss on the day,
while the win went to Upstate reliever Jorda Young
(1-1).
PC returns to action tomorrow when the host the No. 2
Georgia College and State University to the PC Baseball
Complex at 2:30 pm.
