EIGHTH INNING RALLY NOT ENOUGH; BLUE HOSE CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College Blue Hose (8-17) baseball team dropped a 5-3 decision to the visiting Patriots of Francis Marion University (14-5) at the PC Baseball Complex Thursday afternoon. Francis Marion got on the board quickly when Nick Stewart hit a stand-alone homerun over the left field fence in his first at-bat in the top of the first. FMU jumped out to a five run lead scoring Derek Kennemer in the third, Brent Johnson scoring in the fourth off of a Justin Greene single, and Stewart and Omar Quilles scored on a double hit to left field by Johnson. PC mustered a three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth to close the gap to two runs. PC looked as though they were going to tie the game at five-all with senior Evan Sowell (Chesterfield, S.C.) and freshman Preston Simpson (Lancaster, S.C.) sitting on base in the ninth, when junior DH Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) hit into a fielders choice to finish out the game for the Blue Hose. Francis Marion was led at the plate by Kennemer with three hits. Stewart and Greene each registered two RBI for FMU to lead them in that category. Freshman Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Kraven each had two hits and one RBI to lead the Blue Hose at the plate. FMU starter Dusty Floyd picked up the win on the day. PC starter Eric Tatum (Buford, Ga)got the loss. PC returns to action this weekend as they host Catawba College for a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday in South Atlantic Conference action. |
