BLUE HOSE SWEEP INDIANS IN SAC BASEBALL ACTION
Bolchez leads Blue Hose to victory in twinbill sweep

CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College picked up wins in both games of today's doubleheader against the Indians of Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose (14-29, 5-9 SAC) won 9-4 in game #1 and came-from-behind to win 8-7 in the second game over the Indians (7-32-1, 1-13 SAC).


Game #1 - Presbyterian 9, Newberry 4


Presbyterian College sophomore catcher William Bolchoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) went four-for-five at the plate with a homerun and two runs scored to lead the Blue Hose to a 9-4 victory over Newberry. Sophomore right-hander Andrew Cockerham (Millers Creek, N.C.) threw seven good innings to pick up the win for PC, before senior Robert Cook (Clinton, S.C.) came in for the save.

Newberry took an early lead on a Carlos Pupo (Boyton Beach, Fla.) RBI groundout. PC came back to score one run in the fourth and then put together a five-run fifth. The Blue Hose took the lead in the fifth when freshman left fielder Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) hit a single to bring in senor Evan Sowell (Chesterfield, S.C.) and Bolchoz.

Newberry then closed the gap to three runs when Gary Hersey (Key West, Fla.) was pushed over the plate on an error committed by the PC shortstop.

Newberry was able to score two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings but were unable to fully close the scoring gap.

PC's eighth inning was led off by Bolchoz's homer, then senior third baseman Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) brought in the final two runs for the Blue Hose to concrete the final score 9-4.

Anthony Dillenger (Gaffney, S.C.) and Pupo led the Indians at the plate each with three hits and one RBI. Starting pitcher Brandon Manasa (Miami, Fla.) received his third loss on the season for Newberry.


Game 2 Presbyterian 8, Newberry 7


PC rallied in the sixth and seventh innings to pick up a come-from-behind victory over Newberry in the second half of the doubleheader. Bolchoz brought PC from behind to take the lead when he hit his third homer of the day over the left field fence, scoring three runs and setting the final score at 8-7. Bolchoz led the PC attack with three hits and five RBI.

Newberry took the lead and didn't relinquished it until the seventh, when they posted a four run third inning, then posted a three run fourth capped off by a Joel Keefe (Andover, Mass.) two RBI double hit down the left field line.

PC closed the scoring gap to two runs in the sixth when they posted the first of two back-to-back three run innings. The sixth was led off by a Bolchoz homer, followed by an RBI double hit by junior designated hitter Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.), and capped of by Lyda scoring on a wild pitch. 

Freshman reliever Evans Harris (Spartanburg, S.C.) came in to pick up his first win of the season for PC.  Newberry reliever Will Folk (Charleston, S.C.) received the loss. Pupo led Newberry in the second game with three runs and one RBI.  Brandon Manasa added two hits and led the team in RBI with three.

PC and Newberry will finish up their three game SAC series at 1:00 pm tomorrow at the PC Baseball Complex.
