PC COMPLETES SWEEP OF NEWBERRY WITH 9-6 WIN

CLINTON, S.C.- Presbyterian College wrapped up their three-game South Atlantic Conference sweep of Newberry College today with a 9-6 victory at the PC Baseball Complex. PC improves to 15-29, 6-9 SAC with the win, while Newberry falls to 7-33-1, 1-14 SAC.

PC scored five quick runs in the first three innings. Freshman Daniel Hill (Matthews, N.C.) drove in the first PC run when he doubled down the left field line to bring in sophomore Russell Robinson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.). Hill led PC’s attack from the plate with three runs and three RBI.  The Blue Hose went up 6-0 in the fourth inning when senior Evan Sowell (Chesterfield, S.C.) scored on a single hit to left field by freshman Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.).

Newberry cut PC’s lead to three runs when Mathew Webb (Cheraw, S.C.) shot a three-run homer over the fence.

PC and Newberry each scored three runs in the final three innings of the game. But Newberry could not get any closer than three runs to PC.

Senior Brandon Manasa (Miami, Fla.) led the way for Newberry with two hits and two RBI.

PC starter Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) picked up his fourth win of the year, pitching seven complete innings.  Freshman Parker Suit (Macon, Ga.) came in the game in the eighth to finish for PC and picked up his second save of the year. Newberry starter J.D. Goodwin (Spartanburg, S.C.) received his first loss for the year.

PC returns to the diamond tomorrow when they host Erskine College at the PC Baseball complex at 3:00 p.m.
