BLUE HOSE ROLL PAST LANDER, 12-2, IN BASEBALL

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Junior Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) went 5-for-6 with one home run, one triple, five runs scored and two RBI Tuesday night to lead the Presbyterian College baseball team to a 12-2 non-conference victory over Lander University at Legion Field.
 
Presbyterian improves to 16-30 overall, while Lander drops to 24-14.
 
Junior right-hander Ross Ellis (Kings Mountain, N.C.) (2-6) earned the victory for the Blue Hose, striking out one, walking two and allowing just one earned run on eight hits in 5.1 innings.  Lander's Andy Quick took the loss, striking out one, walking one and allowing three earned runs on four hits in two innings of work.
 
Presbyterian took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Craven stroked a two-run homer over the left field fence.  The Blue Hose extended the lead to 3-0 in the third when sophomore Russell Robinson's (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) RBI double scored Craven.
 
In the fourth inning, Red-shirt freshman Preston Simpson (Lancaster, S.C.) doubled down the right line, advanced to third on senior Evan Sowell's (Chesterfield, S.C.) single and scored on sophomore Casey Carlson's single down the right field line to give the Blue Hose a 4-0 lead.
 
PC made it 5-0 in the fifth.  Craven singled to center, advanced to second on red-shirt senior Matt Bodie's (Aiken, S.C.) single to left field then scored on Robinson's RBI single.
 
Lander cut the margin to 5-1 in the fifth when Radley Raven reached first on a hit by pitch, advanced to third on Jesse Barbaro's single and went home on Adam Hutchins' RBI single.
 
In the seventh, Craven tripled to center field then scored on Robinson's sacrifice fly to give the Blue Hose a 6-1 advantage.
 
In the eighth, Simpson singled, advanced to second on Sowell's sacrifice bunt, then went to third on a throwing error.  Simpson and Carlson then scored on freshman Cory Lyda's (Simpsonville, S.C.) RBI single to give the Blue Hose an 8-1 lead.  Lyda advanced to third on Craven's single then Bodie drove in Lyda and Craven to make it 10-1.
 
Lander cut the gap to 10-2 in the eighth.  Malcolm McCleod singled, went to third on Gabe McCann's double then scored on Barbaro's sacrifice fly to left field.
 
For Lander, McCann went 2-for-5 with one double, Barbaro went 3-for-4 with one RBI, McCleod went 2-for-3 with one run scored and Davis and Jones both went 2-for-4.
 
For PC, Robinson went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Bodie went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Lyda went 2-for-6 with one run and three RBI, and Simpson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
Lander, which had 13 hits, left 15 base runners stranded, while PC had 15 hits and nine runners left on base.
