Presbyterian, 7-6,
Behind Tenth-Inning Rally
Bears score three runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to
win
Hickory, N.C. –
The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (19-24, 4-12) scored
three runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to defeat
Presbyterian College (16-32, 6-10), 7-6, Saturday afternoon
in a South Atlantic Conference game at Bears Field.
After PC's
Preston Simpson (Lancaster, S.C.) broke a four-all
tie in the top of the tenth inning with a two-out, two-run
single, Lenoir-Rhyne plated three in the bottom of the frame
to pull out the win.
L-R junior first baseman Matt Sigmon (Catawba,
N.C./Newton-Conover HS) connected on an RBI double to cut
the margin to 6-5 before an errant Blue Hose throw on a
sacrifice bunt attempt scored sophomore pinch runner Zach
Watson (Charlotte, N.C./Lipscomb University) and junior
third baseman Jordan Ackley (Walnut Cove, N.C./South
Stokes HS) for the Bear win.
Presbyterian had rallied from a 4-1 deficit thanks to a
two-run single from
Daniel Hill (Matthews, N.C./Charlotte Christian HS)
in the seventh inning and an RBI single by
Matt Bodie (Aiken,
S.C.) in the eighth.
Junior shortstop Taylor MacCurdy (Charlotte,
N.C./Providence HS) and Ackley each had three hits and two
runs batted in for Lenoir-Rhyne while PC was led Bodie and
Cory Lyda (Simpsonville,
S.C.) with three hits apiece and Hill and Bodie with two
runs batted in.
Junior Dennis Downey (Waynesville, N.C./Tuscola HS)
improved to 3-3 with the win while Presbyterian's
Evans Harris (Spartanburg,
S.C.) (1-2) suffered the loss.
The two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader at
Bears Field on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
