Lenoir-Rhyne And Presbyterian Split South Atlantic Conference Baseball Doubleheader
Blue Hose win the first game, 6-2, while the Bears
take the nightcap by an 8-7 score

Hickory, N.C. The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (20-25, 5-13) split a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Presbyterian College (17-33, 7-11) Sunday afternoon at Bears Field.  The Blue Hose won game one, 6-2, while the Bears held on in the second contest, 8-7.

Game One - Presbyterian 6, Lenoir-Rhyne 2 (seven innings)

(Buford, Ga.) limited L-R to just two runs (one earned) on three hits as he picked up his fourth complete game of the year and upped his record to 2-6.

PC took control early with three runs in the first inning and led 4-0 after two innings of play. 
Russell Robinson (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) highlighted the opening frame with a two-run single.

The Bears cut the margin in half at 4-2 in their half of the third inning on a PC throwing error and a run-scoring single from junior outfielder
Billy Doyle (Delray Beach, Fla./Olympic Heights HS).

The score remained 4-2 until the top of the seventh when the Blue Hose put across two runs thanks to Nick Hoffner's (Ellicot City, Md.) two-run triple.
Robinson led PC with three hits and two RBI on the game while freshman
T.J. Worrell (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg HS) fell to 3-3 with the loss for the Bears.

Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 8, Presbyterian 7 (seven innings)
Lenoir-Rhyne was able to hold off a late Presbyterian rally to salvage a split in the doubleheader.


Trailing 8-4 after six innings, the Blue Hose scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut the margin to one but left two on when the final out was made.

The Bears surged ahead 4-1 going into the top of the third inning before the Blue Hose tied it at four with a three-run home run by
Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.).

L-R scored the next four runs for an 8-4 advantage culminated by a three-run sixth inning which included back-to-back RBI triples by senior centerfielder Matt Wiley (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte HS) and Doyle then held off PC for the victory.

Wiley had three hits and two runs batted in and junior first baseman
Matt Sigmon (Catawba, N.C./Newton-Conover HS) finished the game three-for-three with two RBI to lead Lenoir-Rhyne offensively.

For the Blue Hose, Craven tallied a game-high four runs batted in.

Freshman Greg Conrad (Charlotte, N.C./Olympic HS) (1-1) won his first collegiate game for Lenoir-Rhyne while Presbyterian's Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne takes on Barton Wednesday at 7 p.m., at McCrary Park in Asheboro, N.C., while Presbyterian visits Milledgeville, Ga., on Tuesday as it faces Georgia College & State for a 4 p.m. game.
