JAGUARS CRUISE PAST BLUE HOSE 11-1

CLINTON, S.C. — Augusta State University scored 11 runs on 11 hits en rout to an 11-1 victory over the home-standing Blue Hose of Presbyterian College in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The Jaguars improve to 13-24 on the season, while the Blue Hose fall to 16-31.

Presbyterian took an early 1-0 in the bottom of the first as sophomore Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.) scored from third after teammate, senior Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) hit in a bases-loaded double play.

In the fifth, the Jaguars tied the game at 1-1 when sophomore Jeremy Armstrong (Evans, Ga.) hit an RBI single that scored freshman Robbie Fite (Villa Rica, Ga.). Fite got on base thanks in part of one of PC’s two errors on the day.

ASU exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead 9-1. Six different Jaguars tallied an RBI single in the inning, while Blue Hose went the to bullpen twice during the inning for relief pitchers.

The Jaguars added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth as senior Justin Walker (Martinez, Ga.) tallied an RBI double followed by freshman Jorge Virguez (Lawrenceville, Ga.) scoring on the next play.

Senior Chris Demons (Augusta, Ga.) led the Jaguars at the plate with a three-for-five performance, scoring two runs as ASU pounded out 10 singles out of their 11 hits on the day. Walker went two-for-four with two RBI, while junior John Partridge (Hephzibah, Ga.) also tallied two RBI on a one-for-five performance at the plate.

The Blue Hose were led at the plate by freshman Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) who went two-for-four and tallied a pair of PC’s eight hits on the day.

Junior Kevin Kelley (Woodbine, Ga.) picked up his second win of the season after going seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out three batters. PC’s sophomore Rob McEwen (Leesville, S.C.) took the loss after going three and one-third innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out two.

The Jaguars return to action this weekend when they host the Pacers of USC Aiken for a three-game series. The Blue Hose also return to action this weekend when they travel to Hickory, N.C. to face Lenoir-Rhyne College for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday.
