Anderson Wins Slugfest Against Presbyterian, 17-12

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University scored 10 runs in the second inning and hit four home runs on its way to a 17-12 victory over Presbyterian College in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

Anderson, 7-14 overall, sent 14 batters to the plate in the second. There were nine hits -- eight singles and a grand slam home run by John Mac White -- and three PC errors in the inning.

A two-run homer by Jessie Whiteside in the third and a solo shot by B.J. Smith in the fourth increased Anderson's lead to 13-0.

Anderson starter and winner Nate Miller scattered eight hits and allowed three earned runs in six innings.

Trailing 16-3, the Blue Hose sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the seventh. The big hits in the inning were a two-run homer by Russell Robinson and two-run doubles by Cory Lyda and Daniel Hill.

Josh Grubbs provide Anderson's final run with a solo homer in the eighth.

Anderson finished the game with 19 hits. Tony Graham and Cody Nye had three hits apiece for the Trojans.

Lyda led PC's 16-hit attack with four hits. Kyle Craven also hit a home run for the Blue Hose -- a two-run shot in the sixth.

The loss drops PC to 8-12. The victory gives Anderson a split of the season series with PC. The Blue Hose won the first meeting on Feb. 16 in Clinton, 4-0.
