BLUE HOSE DOWN CRUSADERS TO PICK UP
THIRD WIN OF THE SEASON

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team defeated visiting Belmont Abbey College 4-3 at the PC Baseball Complex Tuesday afternoon. With this win the Blue Hose improve to 3-5 on the season and Belmont Abbey drops to 2-6.

The Crusaders were first to strike early in the game when junior shortstop Josh Haire scored on a single by junior third baseman Nicholas Popp in the top of the first inning.

PC answered back in the bottom of the inning with three runs. The three run effort was started when sophomore catcher William Bolochoz (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) scored fellow sophomore centerfielder Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.)  and freshman left fielder Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) on a double sent down the left field line. Bolochoz then used a wild pitch thrown by Belmont starter Jason Cline (junior) to score. He led all batters with four hits and two RBI’s in four appearances at the plate. PC as a team had 12 hits on the day.

PC freshman third baseman Daniel Hill (Mathews, N.C.) scored on a single from Carlson to extend the Blue Hose lead to three in the fourth inning.

Belmont cut the lead to only one run by scoring in the fifth and seventh innings. In the fifth, designated hitter freshman Michael Gegorek scored on a pop out hit to right field by junior third baseman Nicholas Popp. Then in the seventh, Haire used a Will Breslin (sophomore first baseman) single to cut the Crusaders deficit to one run.

But that wasn’t enough. PC held Belmont scoreless in their last two appearances at the plate to get the win by one run. PC starter Ross Ellis (junior, Kings Mountain, N.C.) receives the win for the Blue Hose. Belmont started Jason Cline (junior) receives the loss for the crusaders in his first appearance on the season. Sophomore Andrew Cockerham and freshman Daniel Hill also made appearances on the mound for PC and sophomore Trey Summerlin also pitched for Belmont 

Belmont was led at the plate in hits by junior right fielder Alex Udwari with three and in RBI’s by Popp with two. As a team the Crusaders posted 10 hits on the day.

PC returns to action on Thursday when they host Anderson University at 2:30 p.m. at the PC Baseball Complex.
