Wednesday, April 12, 2006 Crusaders Split with Presbyterian
BELMONT, NC -
Belmont Abbey College split its baseball
double-header against Presbyterian College Wednesday
afternoon, taking game one 10-9 but falling 11-5 in
the nightcap. The Crusaders improve to 22-30 overall
and while the Blue Hose are now 18-35.
Game #1 - Belmont Abbey 10, Presbyterian 9
The opener went back
and forth with Presbyterian jumping out to a 2-0
lead in the first three innings. The Crusaders came
back to tie the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the
third on a RBI single by Michael Gegorek and
a ground out by Josh Haire.
The Blue Hose added
two in the fifth but BAC answered with five runs in
the bottom half to make it 7-5. Alex Udwari
hit a solo homerun and the Crusaders had five hits
and two walks in the inning. The Abbey took a 9-6
lead into the seventh and final inning but an RBI
single and a two-run homer from
Matt Bodie
tied the game at 9-9. Belmont Abbey didn't flinch,
however, and scored the game-winning run with two
walks and a single by Haire.
Bodie led PC in game
one, going 3-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
Seth Waller led the Abbey, going 2-3 with a monster
two-run shot for two RBI and two runs scored.
Jason Cline earned the game one win while
Andrew
Cockerham took the loss.
Game #2 - Presbyterian 11, Belmont Abbey 5
Presbyterian broke
out the bats in the second game and scored in
each of the first five innings. The Crusaders
matched PC with four runs in the first two
innings but the Blue Hose made it 5-4 in the
third and then batted around in the fifth for a
10-4 lead. The Abbey added a run in the bottom
of the fifth but the visitors answered with one
in the sixth and finished the game off for an
11-5 victory.
In game two, Tyler McKenzie led Belmont Abbey going 3-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored. Bodie had three hits, drove in a run and scored twice for Presbyterian. Rob McEwen pitched 3.2 innings with four earned runs allowed in the win while Andy Helms took the loss, going 3.1 innings with five earned runs allowed. |
