CARSON-NEWMAN COMPLETES SWEEP OF BLUE HOSE
WITH 8-5 WIN

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – Cory McGinnis (Morristown, Tenn.) and Adam Kefauver (Madisonville, Tenn.) each drove in two runs to help lead the Carson-Newman College Eagles to an 8-5 win over the Presbyterian College Blue Hose on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Eagles sweep the three-game series and improve to 15-6 overall, 3-0 in SAC play. The Blue Hose fall to 8-15, 0-3.

The Eagles scored two runs in the second inning when Nick Achberger (Anderson, S.C.) doubled to center field to plate Kefauver and later Achberger would score on a ground-out by McGinnis. McGinnis would give the Eagles their third run when he singled to right to bring Kefauver home in the fourth inning.

PC’s first run came in the fifth when senior infielder Evan Sowell (Chesterfield, S.C.) sent a single to right field to bring red-shirt senior Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) home. The Eagles exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the game away. A two-run error by PC allowed Langdon Potts (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Brandon Burchfield (Maryville, Tenn.) to score. Kefauver doubled to right to bring Charlie Munroe (Newton, N.J.) and Derrick Calkin (Maryville, Tenn.) home and the final run came when Jonathan Mary (Maryville, Tenn.) ground out to plate Achberger.

The Blue Hose cut into the lead in the sixth by scoring two runs. Sophomore Russell Robinson's (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) infield ground-out plated sophomore outfielder Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.) and an error by the Eagles allowed outfielders Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) and Nick Hoffner (Ellicott City, Md.) to come home. Sowell scored on a double by junior Kemper Booth (Hendersonville, N.C.) in the ninth, but the Blue Hose could get no close and the Eagles prevailed 8-5.

Carson-Newman host Cumberland, the defending NAIA national champions, on Wednesday, March 8, at 1:00, while PC will travel to Augusta, Ga., to face Augusta State University on Tuesday at 3:00.
