Saturday, February 11, 2006BLUE HOSE DROP A PAIR TO NO. 11 RANKED FLORIDA SOUTHERN FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA. - A pair of grand slam home runs by shortstop Bryan Brown, one in each game, highlighted a big offensive day for 11th-ranked Florida Southern, as the Moccasins swept a doubleheader from Presbyterian, 11-2, and 14-4, on Saturday at Henley Field. Brown's grand slam in the first game came in the Moccasins' eight-run eighth inning that broke open a close game. The Moccasins (5-2) had taken a 3-2 lead to the bottom of the inning. Brian Schultz, who had tripled and scored to start the inning, capped off the inning with a three-run homer. The Moccasins had snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth, when Raul Rodriguez singled home Kyle Patrick, who had led off the inning with a double. Dan Albritton worked the first seven innings on the mound and picked up his second win of the season. He struck out five, walked two and scattered six hits. Kyle DeYoung earned his second save. He entered the game in the eighth inning with runners at second and third and only one out, but struck out Nick Hoffner and Daniel Hill to end the inning and then pitched a scoreless ninth. Eric Tatum, who pitched seven innings with seven strike outs, took the loss for Presbyterian. Russell Robinson had a double, two singles, and an RBI for the Blue Hose. Brown's second-game grand slam was part of a seven-run third inning that also included a three-run homer by Mike Grace, his fourth of the season. Every Moccasin starter had at least one hit, with Grace and Nick Diyorio each collecting three. Diyorio also had three hits in the first game. Ken Wadsworth was the beneficiary of the Moccasins' 18-hit performance. He pitched six innings, scattering three hits and giving up just one earned run, to even his record at 1-1. Andrew Cockerham took the loss for Presbyterian (1-5). The two teams will conclude their three-game series this (Sun.) afternoon with a single game beginning at 12 noon at Henley Field. |
