BASEBALL RETURNS TO THE DIAMOND AND READIES FOR THE 2006 SEASON

CLINTON, S.C. – Head coach Elton Pollock welcomed back his players to campus for the spring semester as the Presbyterian College baseball program kicked off its preseason practice on January 3.  Pollock welcomed 29 players including six incoming freshmen to PC.  The baseball program is looking to improve on a 17-40 record from the 2005 season.

The PC baseball coaching staff is excited about the team’s potential following a good, strong fall season.  Coming into the fall, the biggest question concerning the coaching staff was whether or not anyone would step up to assume the leadership role on the mound.  Junior Ross Ellis (Kings Mountain, N.C.) and senior Robert Cole (Savannah, Ga.) both demonstrated that they were vying for the No. 1 spot in the rotation.

“Ellis and Cole stepped up big this fall.  I saw a level of maturity I hadn’t seen in years past, which should solidify their confidence going into the spring,” said Pollock.

The Blue Hose are gearing up for the opening of the 2006 regular season, as PC will compete at the Nova Southeastern University Tournament on February 3-5.  The team will open up the tournament against the host on February 3 at 6:00, less than a month away.

Leading the attack at the plate during the fall was redshirt senior Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.), who is the only returning all-conference performer.  According to Coach Pollock, “Bodie has transitioned into one of the best hitters on the team and his potential is limitless at the plate.”

The Blue Hose will practice from 2:30 to 5:30 Tuesdays-Thursdays, from 1:30 to 4:30 Fridays-Sundays, and have off on Mondays.
