Big Seventh Inning Lifts No. 19 Augusta State Over PC

CLINTON, S.C. – No. 19 Augusta State used a seven run seventh inning to push past PC 14-8 on Tuesday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.  PC falls to 10-21 on the season while the Jaguars move to 17-6.

Both teams hit the ball well with the Blue Hose tallying 14 hits in the contest to the Jaguars 17. 

Presbyterian rallied in the fifth inning with four runs to go ahead 6-5.  The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run by Kyle Craven that tied the game after a pair of singles by Casey Carlson and Robbie Anders.  The Blue Hose scored the go-ahead run on a double to left center off the bat of Cory Lyda to plate Jesse Harmon who reached base on a bunt single. 

Augusta State scored two runs in the next inning to reclaim the lead before blowing the game open in the seventh and pushing its lead to 14-6.

Presbyterian scored their final two runs of the game in the bottom half of the seventh on an RBI single by Kemper Booth and an RBI double to center by Casey Carlson.

PC’s Casey Carlson led both teams with four hits including two doubles and two runs.  Cory Lyda finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk.  Right fielder Kyle Craven drove in a season-high five runs.

All but one Augusta State starter finished with at least one hit.  The Jaguars’ three and four spot in the order came up big all day with left fielder Tim Rawlings driving in three runs on a couple of hits and Shannon Wilkerson driving in three as well on a home run and two doubles.

The Blue Hose went through five different pitchers with Stephen Henry taking the loss in relief of starter Eric Tatum.  Augusta State’s Jon Hansen earned the win pitching 2 and 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. 

PC will take on rival Newberry College for a three-game series at Greenville Municipal Stadium beginning on Friday at 7 p.m.  The series will wrap up with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
