PC Falls To Augusta State In Season Finale
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State Jaguars defeated
the Presbyterian
Blue Hose Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field in Augusta, Ga.
With the
win the Jags improve to 25-20 on the season, while the Blue
Hose drop
to 18-36.
Presbyterian jumped out on top in the first when the first
three batters each got a hit. Casey Carlson, the third
batter, hit a triple to right center driving in Cory Lyda
and Jesse Harmon, before touching home himself on a ground
ball to short stop. The Blue Hose scored three more runs in
the second on a three run double by Carlson to take a 6-2
lead, but after the first two innings Presbyterian was not
able to push any more runs across the plate.
ASU got two runs in the first and then one more in the
fourth off of a combined four hits. The Jags took the lead
in the seventh when the first three batters each got a
single loading the bases, Jorge Virguez was up to bat and
hit a single to center, plating Jeremy Armstrong and Bennett
Mayfield. A couple of batters later, Kevin Kelley stepped up
to the plate and hit a double to left center scoring two
more runs, Kelley then later scored off of a single by
Dustin Taylor.
Ryan Emmett came in to relieve Matt Kallaoun in the third
for ASU, he pitched the last seven innings and took the win
while only giving up four hits and no runs.
Micah Black entered the game in the seventh with bases
loaded and
got the loss for the Blue Hose after surrendering two-run
single.
Mayfield led the Jaguar’s offensively going 3-for-4 with two
runs
scored and a RBI. Also for the Jags, Tony Baker went 3-for-5
wih two
runs scored.
For Presbyterian, Carlson finished with a game-high five
RBIs on a pair of extra-base hits while Lyda also finished
the contest with two base hits and a walk to go along with
two runs scored.
