Brevard Sweeps Twinbill With PC On Saturday

CLINTON, S.C. – Brevard College won both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The Tornados earned a 6-4 come-from-behind win in game one and then garnered a 7-1 victory in the second game of the twinbill.

Presbyterian falls to 2-5 with the two losses, while Brevard ends the day above .500 at 3-2.

The two teams will close out their three-game set at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11 at the PC Baseball Complex.

Game One

Presbyterian and Brevard went into the top of the seventh and final inning with PC owning a 4-3 advantage.

The Blue Hose lead would not last as the Tornados were able to pick up three runs in the top of the inning off Ross Ellis (Kings Mountain, N.C.), who was looking for his second save of the season.

Brevard retook the lead for the first time since the fourth inning when catcher Seth Corliss singled to right field for his only hit of the contest. The hit would bring home two Tornados to give Brevard a 5-4 lead.

Brevard would tack on one more when first baseman Justin Frady crossed the plate to set the eventual final score at 6-4.

The Blue Hose threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the inning, placing runners on second and third with two outs. In the end though, Chris White, who played for the first five-plus innings at the hot corner, was able to force Kyle Craven into a game-ending grounder to the second baseman.

Despite the three runs given up in the top of the seventh, the story of the contest probably was Presbyterian’s inability in the game to bring people across the dish. The Blue Hose had four more hits (12-8) than the Tornados in the game, but the Blue Hose left 14 PC runners on the base path.

White picked up the victory for Brevard, while Ellis (0-1) suffered the loss for PC after giving up three runs on two hits in the top of the seventh.

Starter Mitchell Odom (Oconee, Ga.) pitched six strong innings for the Blue Hose in the game, striking out six and allowing only six hits in 6.0 innings pitched.

Game Two

The Tornados picked up where they left off offensively in the first game from the outset of the second game.

The Tornados had two players hit multiple RBI home runs in the contest. Josh Miller picked up the first dinger of the game for the Tornados in the fifth inning when he homered to left field to bring home Josh Corliss, who had started the inning off by walking.

One inning later Frady seemingly placed the game out of reach for the Blue Hose when he hit a three-run home run to left center field with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to give the Tornados a 7-0 lead.

Presbyterian garnered one run back in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.) doubled in Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.). to give the Blue Hose their first run and set the final at 7-1.

Freshman Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.), who won his first outing last Sunday against Anderson University, lost the first game of his college career in game two. Harmon (1-1) did strike out seven in the contest to bring his two-game tally to 16 total punchouts.

Shane Galloway picked up the victory from the mound for Brevard after giving up only three hits in six innings.
