PC Sweeps Twinbill From Benedict

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian swept a twinbill from Benedict College on Thursday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose earned a 7-1 victory in game one and took game two, 4-2.

Presbyterian improves to 8-9 with the victory, while Benedict falls to 7-8 on the year with the loss.

The Blue Hose travel to Lincoln Memorial tomorrow to begin a three-game series with the Railsplitters. The two teams will play game one at 7 p.m. on Friday before concluding the series with a doubleheader (9 and &) on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Game One

Just one day after his nine-game hitting streak was snapped, Kyle Craven kicked things off for the Blue Hose in game one with a solo dinger to left center field in the second inning.

Three innings later in the scheduled seven inning game, PC plated two more. Robbie Anders started things in the inning for the Blue Hose by singling to left field.

Anders was brought home two batters later when Zack Wilson singled to left center field himself to drive in Anders and give the Blue Hose a 2-0 advantage.

Russell Robinson tallied an RBI later in the inning on a fly out to centerfield to make it 3-0 in favor of the Blue Hose when he brought home William Bocholz from third base.

Bobby Holmes then kicked off the next inning for the Blue Hose by belting his second home run in as many days to plate two and give PC a dominating 5-0 lead.

Presbyterian would add two more in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-0. Benedict got on the board in the top of the seventh inning to set the final score at 7-1.

Andrew Cockerham tallied his first victory of the season from the hill in the win for the Blue Hose. Cockerham fanned four batters in seven innings pitched.

Game Two

Presbyterian was down to Benedict 2-1 in the second game entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but were able to bring three across in the inning to pull ahead for good in the contest.

Jessie Harmon got things rolling for the Blue Hose in the fifth by singling up the middle. Cory Lyda then sacrificed bunted Harmon to second to place him in scoring position.

Robinson grounded out to the second baseman next to make things look dim for the Blue Hose. They were able to turn their fortunes around though as Casey Carlson doubled in Harmon to tie the game at 2-2.

Craven then singled to left center field to bring in Carlson from third for the eventual game-winning run.

PC added one more in the inning to set the final score at 4-2 after freshman Zach Snipes came into the game in the top of the seventh and final inning to pick up the first save of his intercollegiate career.

Jim Wagers hurled six strong innings for the Blue Hose in the game to earn his first victory of the season. Wagers struck out five in the win.
