Blue Hose Sweep Doubleheader
at Benedict
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Blue Hose
were able to take both games of a baseball doubleheader at
Benedict College on Wednesday afternoon by the scores of
16-1 and 8-0.
PC improves to 16-26 on the year with the two wins and have
now won three straight games, including five of their last
seven and six of their last nine.
PC will next travel to Tusculum College for a three-game
conference series beginning on Saturday with a 1 p.m.
doubleheader. The series will wrap-up on Sunday afternoon
with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
Game One
Presbyterian’s 16 runs in game one were the most the team
has scored all year. Presbyterian batters hammered out 17
total hits in the contest including six different players
who tallied multiple hits.
PC began the scoring with three runs in the first inning and
never relented, plating runs in all but one of the seven
innings in the game.
Blue Hose right fielder Kyle Craven led all batters with
three hits to go along with two RBIs and two runs scored.
There were many other offensive highlights on the day with
designated hitter Steven Henry cranking out his first career
home run, a three-run blast in the sixth inning.
Casey Carlson and Jesse Harmon each registered a triple in
the game with two hits and two RBIs.
The Blue Hose pitchers also had a strong outing as Ross
Ellis picked up his first win of the year after going five
complete innings without allowing an earned run. He also
struck out five compared to only one walk.
Parker Suit and Ben Dollar pitched an inning each to close
out the game. The Tigers only managed four hits off the
three Blue Hose pitchers.
Game Two
PC turned in another dominating performance in the second
game as the offense totaled 14 hits and five Blue Hose
pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout.
Second baseman Andrew Cockerham and Bobby Holmes each drove
in a pair of runs for PC. Presbyterian totaled five
extra-base hits in the contest led by Carlson’s second
triple in as many games. Cory Lyda, Craven, Harmon and
Cockerham all hit doubles.
Mitchell Odom got the start on the mound and claimed his
first win of the year striking out three without allowing a
walk or a run in his three innings of work.
The committee of Eric Tatum, Micah Black, Jim Wagers, and
Andrew Cockerham threw four innings of no-hit ball out of
the bullpen to close out the game for the Blue Hose,
allowing only one batter to reach base on a walk, while
striking out four.
