Sunday, March 4, 2007 Lyda Nets PC's Only Run In Loss To Catawba SALISBURY, NC - Catawba completed the sweep of visiting Presbyterian with a 9-1 victory in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Newman Park. The Catawba Indians improve to 12-8 overall and 5-4 in the SAC, while the Blue Hose fall to 9-16 and 2-7. Sophomore Blake Ketner (Davidson, NC) kept the Blue Hose off balance for seven innings. He allowed a single unearned run on just two hits. Chad Baker (Jamestown, NC) helped provide the offense, scoring three runs and collecting a pair of hits. Each team picked up a run in the first inning. Presbyterian scored off a double steal as Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, NC) raced home as Casey Carlson (Lexington, SC) got in a run down between first and second. Catawba answered as David Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC) led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Jerry Sands (Clayton, NC). Ketner would stymie the Blue Hose, taking a no hitter into the fifth before a two-out single by Preston Simpson (Lancaster, SC). Catawba would take the lead in the sixth on a pinch-hit single by Kevin McMillan (Salisbury, NC) and erupted for five runs with two outs in the seventh. Bret Hatley (Salisbury, NC) capped the inning with a two-run single. Paul Link (Salisbury, NC) pitched two hitless innings of relief to secure the win. Russell Robinson (Mt. Pleasant, SC) had the second PC hit. |
