Lyda's Game-Winning
RBI Lifts PC Past Coker
CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian rallied to
beat Coker College 4-3 with two runs in the ninth inning on
Wednesday afternoon. Cory Lyda drove in the game-winning run
with a single through the right side to score Josh Milner
and improve the Blue Hose to 2-2 on the season. With the
loss The Cobras fall to 0-3.
Jesse Harmon lined out to the shortstop
to lead off the ninth inning but a throwing error by Coker
third baseman Eric Losten allowed Dane Fehr to reach base.
Matthew Hill was then inserted to pinch run for the Blue
Hose.
Josh Milner would follow with a
pinch-hit single to advance Hill to third and place runners
at the corners. Casey Carlson would bring in the game-tying
run with another base hit up the middle that scored Hill.
Coker would get on the board first with
a run in the top of the first. Brian Nally led off the game
with a walk and would eventually come in to score with a
sacrifice fly to right by Steven Evans.
PC would answer back with two runs in
the bottom of the second off Coker starter Jayson Clarke.
Sophomore Dane Fehr hit a two-run double in the left-center
gap to drive in Jesse Harmon and Bobby Holmes.
Coker would tally single runs in both
the fourth and sixth innings to gain a 4-2 lead going into
the ninth.
PC junior Steven Henry claimed his
first victory of the season after tossing three scoreless
innings in relief with three strikeouts. Sophomore Daniel
Hill got the start for the Blue Hose going three innings
allowing only one run on two hits in his season debut.
Coker’s Kyle Strickland pitched four
innings out of the bullpen and took the loss after
surrendering the two runs in the ninth.
The difference in the game may have
proved to be in the top of the third inning when Coker’s
Brian Nally was gunned down at home plate by center fielder
Cory Lyda as Nally tried to score from second on a single by
Ryan Schaeffer.
Presbyterian is back in action tomorrow
afternoon at 2 p.m. as they play host to the Saints of
Limestone College at the PC Baseball Complex.
