Former
PC Standout Makes Move To Northern League

GARY,
Ind. – Recently former Presbyterian baseball standout Kevin
White made the move from the Traverse City Beach Bums of the
Frontier League to the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the
Northern League.
The move
could be construed as a boon for the PC slugger - who is the
school-record holder in nine statistical categories - due to
the fact that the RailCats won the league championship in
2005 in the competitive Northern League, a professional
independent baseball league consisting of eight teams
located in four states and two Canadian provinces.
White
began his professional career with the Richmond Roosters
(Ind.) in the Frontier League in 2004, winning the
Simontacchi Award as the league’s Rookie-of-the-Year after
hitting .322 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs.
Over his
two seasons with Richmond, White accumulated 199 hits,
batting .305 with 31 home runs, 35 doubles and 341 total
bases for a .522 slugging percentage. The right-handed
slugger also added 109 RBIs, driving in a run every 6.5
at-bats.
White
began his 2006 baseball campaign with Traverse City (Mich).
He was batting .240 with five doubles at the time of the
trade on June 22. In 31 games for the RailCats, White is
batting at a .221 clip to go along with seven doubles and a
pair of home runs. He has driven in 14 runs and been plated
19 times.
Over his
last five games, White has batted .267 (4-15) with two
walks, two runs and an RBI. He has helped lead the RailCats
to an 8-11 record in the second half, placing them just one
game out of the lead in the East Division of the Northern
League.
White’s
success at the professional level is a direct result of his
time at PC where he had a prodigious career, finishing 2004
as the South Atlantic Conference Player-of-the-Year.
The
Spartanburg, S.C. native was an All-SAC selection all of his
four years at Presbyterian and was selected to the ABCA
All-South Region team three of those four years.
In 2002
White was selected as the National Collegiate Baseball
Writers Association South Region Player-of-the-Year after
batting a school-best .425 to couple with a slugging
percentage of .802. That season White, who also drove in 72
runs, also set the school’s single season total bases record
with 170.
A
two-time NCAA Division II All-American, White garnered his
first All-America nod in 2002 before earning his second in
2004.
White
finished his PC career as the school’s career record holder
in nine offensive categories. He holds the record for runs
scored (212), hits (321), RBIs (216), home runs (47),
doubles (60), triples (13), total bases (548), batting
average (.384) and slugging percentage (.656).
