   PC Splits Conference-Opening Doubleheader With Lenoir-Rhyne

CLINTON, S.C. - PC claimed victory in game one of a doubleheader with Lenoir-Rhyne, 8-6, before dropping the second contest, 12-11, to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon.

The three-game series marks the first in SAC play for both teams.

The Blue Hose end the day at 6-6 on the season and 1-1 in the South Atlantic Conference, while the Bears are now 8-3 overall and also 1-1 in the conference.

Game One

In the opener Presbyterian pounded out 13 base hits, all of which were singles. Kyle Craven was responsible for four of those hits and Russell Robinson had a three-hit day to lead PC in the victory.

The two teams finished even in hits with 13 but Lenoir-Rhyne’s eight errors in the field proved detrimental, leading to three unearned runs.

PC trailed 5-4 in sixth inning when Casey Carlson reached on a fielder’s choice with two outs. Kyle Craven would follow with an infield single.

Kemper Booth, the hero in Thursday’s win over Belmont-Abbey, would come through again with another RBI hit to right field.

Bobby Holmes then singled in a run and William Bolchoz knocked in two more to conclude the Blue Hose scoring in the game.

L-R’s Taylor MacCurdy and Jordan Ackley each contributed three hits in the Bear’s loss.

Josh Keller, who entered in the sixth to relieve starter Jesse Jordan took the loss as Eric Tatum claimed his second win of the season for the Blue Hose. Tatum relieved starter Daniel Hill in the sixth inning.

Ben Dollar recorded his first save of the season, striking out two in the final frame of the game.

Game Two

In the second game PC jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Casey Carlson knocked in Lyda with a single and Kemper Booth would drive in two in the inning. Bobby Holmes knocked in the final run of the inning that would end the day for L-R starter Justin Crowell.

The Blue Hose were aided in the inning by two Bear errors and a passed ball.

Lenoir-Rhyne took back the lead in the third inning with six runs on three hits and three Blue Hose errors.

Down 8-7 in the fifth PC once again battled back to take the lead on a Holmes two RBI single.

PC was unable to hold the lead however as L-R’s Rob Mullins hit a two-run home run to left center off Parker Suit in the sixth.

Suit was replaced by Stephen Henry who surrendered the second two-run home run of the inning off the bat of Jordan Ackley to push the Lenoir-Rhyne lead to 12-9.

Presbyterian answered with two runs in its half of the sixth but were unable to even the game.

Bobby Holmes drove in three runs on three hits and Cory Lyda knocked in two on three hits of his own to lead PC in the game.

The Bear’s Dennis Downey picked up his second win of the season out of the bullpen and PC’s Parker Suit took the loss in two innings of relief for starter Jesse Harmon.

Presbyterian will conclude the series with Lenoir-Rhyne tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at the PC Baseball Complex.
