Craven Extends Hitting Streak In Blue Hose Loss To
Bearcats
CLINTON, S.C. - Jesse Barbaro’s four RBI day paced
Lander in a 9-4 win over PC Tuesday afternoon at the PC
Baseball Complex.
The Bearcats cranked out 17 hits and never trailed in the
game. With the win Lander moves to 3-7 on the season as
Presbyterian falls to 6-8.
Four different Blue Hose finished with two hits, including
Kyle Craven who ran his hitting streak to nine games. Bobby
Holmes drove in two of Presbyterian’s four runs.
Lander got the scoring started with single runs in the first
and second innings. Barbaro drove in his first run of the
game on a single to center field in the first stanza.
The Bearcats would then get all the runs they would need in
a three-run fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Barbaro would
again highlight the scoring with a two-run double to left
center. Rightfielder Danny Morgan then followed with a RBI
double of his own to left center.
PC would cross the plate for the first time in the bottom of
the fifth inning. Rightfielder Jesse Harmon led off the
inning with a triple that went over the center fielder’s
head. The next at-bat Zack Wilson brought him in with a base
hit to right field.
The Bearcats quickly added three more runs in the sixth off
of five hits to push the lead to 8-1. Jonathan Myers and
Barbaro both hit RBI doubles off of Blue Hose relief
pitching.
Shortstop Robbie Anders hit his first career home run in the
seventh. Anders’ home run was a solo shot just over the left
field fence.
Presbyterian plated its final two runs in the eighth after
Casey Carlson reached on a fielder’s choice and Kyle Craven
and William Bolchoz hit back-to-back singles to load the
bases. Bobby Holmes singled to center to drive in two, but
the Bearcats escaped any further damage by getting Robert
Anders to line into a double play.
Parker Suit was handed the loss in his first start of the
season after going 4.1 innings. Suit allowed eight hits and
five runs (four earned).
Lander’s Justin Altman claimed the win after pitching six
strong innings and only allowing one run. Altman fanned
five.
PC goes on the road tomorrow for the first time in over two
weeks to face Erskine College. First pitch in the
non-conference matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m.
