Bolchoz Finishes With Two
Hits In PC Loss To Tusculum
CLINTON, S.C. – Tusculum was in
control from the start, scoring five runs in the first
inning en route to an eventual 12-1 victory over
Presbyterian on Thursday afternoon at the PC Baseball
Complex. The win was the seventh straight for Tusculum as
they move to 17-7 on the year while the Blue Hose fall to
9-18 with the loss.
The Pioneers scored their runs in the first inning off of
four singles and a pair of walks. Carlos Rivera singled to
right field to bring in the first run of the game. He would
come around to score two batters later on a two RBI single
by Mark Deans that also plated Christian Rosa. Tusculum’s
Aaron Porter and Paul Finger also had RBI singles in the
inning.
Blue Hose starter Jim Wagers (2-2) lasted only 2 and 1/3
innings allowing seven runs on four hits and five walks.
Brandon Tuten won his second game of the season pitching
eight innings for the Pioneers allowing only one run and
striking out nine batters.
Tusculum added three more runs in the third inning to
increase the lead to 8-0 before PC scored their lone goal in
the sixth inning. William Bolchoz doubled to lead off the
inning and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by
second baseman Matthew Hill. He was driven in on a single to
right field by Sophomore Cory Lyda.
The Pioneers tacked on four more runs off of three different
Blue Hose relief pitchers over the last three innings to sum
up the scoring.
Tusculum’s designated hitter Aaron Porter highlighted the
Pioneer’s offensive performance with a pair of hits and four
RBI. Dean, Rosa, and Maikol Gonzalez all totaled two hits
each on the day.
Bolchoz, who finished with a couple of hits, was the only
Blue Hose player to finish with a multi-hit game.
PC will try to turn things around this weekend. After one
day off they will welcome conference foe Mars Hill to
Clinton for a noon doubleheader on Saturday afternoon and a
1 p.m. game on Sunday.
