PC Falls Twice In Twinbill With Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – No. 20 Tusculum College won both games of a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Presbyterian College at Pioneer Park on Saturday afternoon. Tusculum won game one 13-6 and then took a 4-3 win in game two.

Game 1

Tusculum’s Carlos Rivera went 4-for-5 including his lead-off home run in the first inning as The Pioneers won game one 13-6. Tusculum jumped out to a 7-0 advantage, including a five-run first inning paced by Rivera's solo knock, his third of the season. Matt Webb added three hits, while Maikol Gonzalez finished with two hits, including his SAC leading 11th triple of the season.

The Blue Hose (16-28, 5-15 SAC) recorded a dozen hits in the game, including three hits by Kemper Booth. PC’s Kyle Craven, Josh Milner and Cory Lyda added two hits each in game one.

Tusculum starter C.J. Hillyer improved his record to 5-1 on the year as he tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowed seven hits, five runs, three earned, two walks and posted a strikeout.

The Pioneer's Christian Rosa had his 14-game hitting streak snapped as he went 0-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.

Game 2

Rosa broke up a 3-3 tie with his RBI double in the fourth inning as Tusculum defeated Presbyterian 4-3. Hammons (5-1) tossed six strong innings as he scattered four hits, allowed three unearned runs, walked one and struck out six PC batters. Brandon Tuten came aboard in the seventh and stranded the tying run at third base to post his first collegiate save.

Blue Hose starter Jesse Harmon (1-3) pitched well in the loss as he went the distance in six innings of work. Harmon allowed seven hits, four runs, walked two and struck out one.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first in the second inning as Aaron Porter and Aaron Hudgins reached on back-to-back singles. Porter scored on a wild pitch, while Hudgins crossed the plate on Rivera's RBI grounder. TC made it 3-0 in the next frame as Gonzalez started the inning with a single and scored on Morrow's third double of the day and seventh of the season.

Presbyterian answered with three runs in the fourth inning. Robert Anders and Kyle Craven led off with back-to-back base hits. Both would come into score on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Booth. Booth would tie the game at 3-3 on Milner's RBI single.

TC regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Hudgins singled and scored on Rosa's double. With Tusculum leading 4-3 in the seventh, Steven Henry drew a one-out walk. Preston Simpson came into the game to pinch run and immediately moved to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Tuten struck out Lyda and got a groundout by Anders to end the game.

The Blue Hose and Pioneers conclude their three-game SAC series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Park.
