USC Upstate Comes From
Behind To Beat Presbyterian 7-3
SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
USC Upstate avenged an earlier loss to Presbyterian by
picking up a 7-3 victory in out-of-conference action on
Tuesday evening at Harley Park. The Spartans came from
behind scoring two runs in the third inning to take a 4-2
lead that they never relinquished. PC falls to 9-17 on the
season as USC Upstate improves to 12-9.
PC out hit the Spartans 10-9 but were plagued by three
errors that led to four unearned runs proving to be the
difference in the outcome. The Blue Hose also left 12
runners stranded.
Kyle Craven continued to swing a hot stick, totaling three
hits on the day including a double with a walk and an RBI.
Cory Lyda and Robert Anders also finished with two hits each
to lead Presbyterian at the plate.
Freshman Michael Winfield had a big day for Upstate tallying
three hits and two RBI.
Lefthander Dennis McCraney picked up his first win of the
season for Upstate going 2 and 1/3 innings in relief and
allowing only one run and striking out three. Freshman Jesse
Harmon (2-4) took the loss for PC giving up six runs (two
earned) in 4 and 2/3 innings, fanning five.
The Blue Hose will try to snap their eight-game losing skid
at home Thursday when they face Tusculum College for a
region game at 2:30 p.m. at the PC Baseball Complex.
