WVSU Scores Run In Top Of
Tenth Inning To Defeat PC
CLINTON, S.C. –
West Virginia State’s Tyler Courts doubled down the left
field line to score Josh Koepsel in the top of the 10th
inning and defeat Presbyterian College 2-1 in non-conference
baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at the PC Baseball
Complex.
Pitching in relief, PC’s Ben Dollar (1-1) had allowed
Koepsel on the base path with one out in the extra frame.
Courts (1-for-5) then delivered his only hit of the game to
net the game-winning run.
The score 1-0 in favor of WVSU, PC placed itself in position
for the victory in the bottom of the fifth inning when the
Blue Hose crossed the dish for the first time.
Kemper Booth (Hendersonville, N.C.) got things rolling for
the Blue Hose in the inning when he doubled to right field
with two outs.
Preston Simpson (Lancaster, S.C.) then knotted the game at
1-1 when he singled in Booth.
The Yellow Jackets acquired the first run of the game in the
top of the third inning when Geof Davis singled through the
left side to bring in Eric Workman.
Jesse Harmon (Newberry, S.C.) collected two of PC’s five
hits in the game. Harmon was 2-for-4 on the afternoon.
West Virginia State had two players finish with three hits
as Davis and Workman both ended the game 3-for-5 at the
plate.
The fourth pitcher in for the Yellow Jackets, Patrick
Muldoon picked up his first win for West Virginia State this
season after pitching a scoreless ninth.
Zach Leskanic hurled the bottom of the 10th for WVSU to earn
his first save of the 2007 campaign.
Presbyterian falls to 11-24 with the loss, while the Yellow
Jackets improve to 15-6 on the year with the win.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the
PC Baseball Complex. The contest will be aired locally on
WPCC Sports Radio 1410 and streamed on the web at
