Presbyterian’s Burgess
Selected to D2football.com Preseason All-America Team
Blue Hose Ranked Eighth Nationally In Preseason Poll
CLINTON, S.C. –
Presbyterian strong safety Chad Burgess
was selected to D2football.com’s preseason All-America
team on Monday, earning first team honors. The only Blue
Hose player selected to the squad, Burgess’ honor is the
fourth preseason All-America nod for him in the 2006
preseason (Don
Hansen’s, Lindy’s and Street & Smith’s). |
Burgess, a
5-foot-10, 183-pound senior safety from Kingstree, S.C.
acquired 79 total stops including 46 solo tackles and seven
tackles for loss (-17) in the 2005 season. He added a
team-best three interceptions to go along with eight pass
defenses, four QB hurries, and returned one interception 78
yards for a touchdown versus West Georgia. Burgess earned
first team All-SAC and Don Hansen All-Southeast region
accolades and second team Daktronics All-Southeast region
honors and third team Don Hansen’s All-American plaudits for
his efforts last year.
The online
publication also released its preseason poll on Monday, with
Presbyterian dubbed eighth nationally. The Blue Hose are the
highest ranked and one of two South Atlantic programs (No.
17 Carson-Newman) tabbed in the poll.
Presbyterian
opens its 2006 football campaign this coming Saturday, Aug.
26 on the road at 7 p.m. against West Georgia in Carrollton,
Ga.
Presbyterian
welcomes defending Big South champion and NCAA I-AA member
Charleston Southern to Bailey Memorial Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
on Saturday, Sept. 2 to kick off its home campaign. PC
commences its SAC title defense on Saturday, Sept. 30 with a
tilt against Lenoir-Rhyne. Kick-off is slated for 1:30 p.m.
at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
