Camp Bentley: Day Three

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College completed its third day of football training camp on Wednesday evening on its four practice fields on the PC campus.

“I am very pleased with where we are at this point in time in our training camp,” noted Coach Bentley. “Our players are really beginning to pick up the offensive and defensive schemes. We have a long way to go right now, but we are on the right road.”

The Blue Hose will participate in their fourth practice of training camp at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening.

All PC practices are open to the public.

Noting Camp Bentley…

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “The best thing about our student-athletes is that you do not have to tell them anything twice. They understand what you are telling them the first time.”

THE HEAT IS ON: The Blue Hose were for the second consecutive day forced to practice at night by the extreme heat. PC’s original plan was to practice at 4 p.m., but instead practiced from 7-9.

FULL PADS: The Blue Hose practiced in shells on Wednesday and will practice once again that way on Thursday before donning full pads for the first time on Friday.

DAY-BY-DAY: The Blue Hose will practice 22 more times before beginning their first week of game preparation on Monday, Aug. 27. In total, PC will have 26 more practices before taking the gridiron against Furman at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Paladin Stadium.

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT PRACTICE: Coach Bentley and his coaching staff is doing their best to continue to implement their training and conditioning during practice. The Blue Hose are going all out on every thing that they do, but as Bentley said after Wednesday’s practice, “they still need to focus on practicing at a shorter, more energetic pace.”

LET IT FORM: The Blue Hose spent a large amount of the last hour of their practice on Wednesday working on punt formations. The PC coaching staff made sure that they were able to get the formations on film so they could better help their players over the course of camp understand exactly what they are looking for with their punts and punt protection.

STARS OF THE DAY: Coach Bentley specifically mentioned three players’ efforts after Wednesday’s practice. Bryce Smiley (Gaffney, S.C.) had a great day defensively, while returning starting running back S.J. Worrell (Madison, Ga.) and true freshman running back Mario Carter (Columbia, S.C.) led the team on the day offensively.
