PC Football Holds Second Scrimmage Of Preseason

CLINTON, S.C. – The defense and Chetyuane Reeder stole the show in Presbyterian College’s second preseason football scrimmage of 2007 on Tuesday at Bailey Memorial Stadium.

A Clinton native, Reeder was a multifaceted threat for the Blue Hose in Tuesday’s scrimmage. He played numerous positions for the Blue Hose on the day, shining in all phases.

Reeder scored a 23-yard touchdown at tailback, picking up 35 yards in just three carries. On defense on the afternoon for the Blue Hose, Reeder deflected two passes and picked up a fumble.

The dual threat also blocked a 40-yard field goal attempt by PC kicker Bret DiTullio (Aiken, S.C.).

Defensively, both strings of the defensive unit held the Blue Hose offense to just two touchdowns on the afternoon. Kris Conner (Rabun Gap, Ga.) scored PC’s first touchdown of the afternoon on a one-yard run, while Reeder scored on the 23-yard run late in the scrimmage.

Anthony McKnight (Sumter, S.C.) led the way, stripping the football right out of quarterback Tim Webb’s (Lugoff, S.C.) hands at one point during the scrimmage. He had three tackles in the scrimmage, including one tackle-for-loss for five yards.

Clifton Evans (Winnsboro, S.C.) acquired PC’s only sack on the day, taking down PC quarterback Grayson Mullins (Lugoff, S.C.) for a seven-yard loss.

“The real positive that we learned from today is that we need to find a way to get Reeder on the field,” said PC head coach Bobby Bentley after the scrimmage on Tuesday. “I was real proud of the way our defense played. We just have to find consistency out of the quarterback position.”

Mullins was 9-for-15 for 89 yards in the contest, while Brandon Miley (Wilmington, N.C.) was 7-for-13 for 92 yards.

Miley was a perfect 4-for-4 on his first drive of the game, throwing for 51 yards and running for 15 more on three rushes in leading the Blue Hose to the touchdown by Conner.

Converted quarterback Parker Fleming (Atlanta, Ga.) continued to make strides at receiver in the scrimmage, catching four passes for 70 yards. Three of Fleming’s four catches were for 20 yards or more.

The Blue Hose will practice two times on Wednesday, beginning with a 9:15 a.m. practice on PC’s four practice fields.

Counting Down…

DAY-BY-DAY: The Blue Hose will practice 13 more times before beginning their first week of game preparation on Monday, Aug. 27. In total, PC will have 17 more practices before taking the gridiron against Furman at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Paladin Stadium.
