PC’s Mullins Chosen Top Offensive Player Among FCS Independents By Lindy’s

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College quarterback Grayson Mullins was tabbed by Lindy’s College Football Preview Magazine as the Offensive Player of the Year among independents in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

A University of South Carolina transfer, Mullins led the Blue Hose in total offense in his first year with the program in the 2006 season. Mullins’ accounted for 109.5 yards-per-game in 2006 for PC.

The Columbia, S.C. native and Irmo High School product threw for a team-high 939 yards last season, completing 87 of his 157 pass attempts. Mullins also passed for six touchdowns.

A dual threat at the quarterback position, Mullins in his 10 games played with the Blue Hose last season ran for 156 yards and one touchdown.

Mullins has taken quickly to new PC Football head coach Bobby Bentley’s spread offense. In fact in the first spring football game under Bobby Bentley’s direction, Mullins racked up 282 total yards of offense, passing for 223 yards and rushing for another 59 at Bailey Memorial Stadium.

Mullins, who will be a junior in 2007, was 20-for-29 on his passes in the spring game, throwing for two touchdowns and scampering 53 yards on the ground for another on the PC offense’s first possession of the spring game.

As a team Lindy’s ranks the Blue Hose second among FCS independents behind 2007 PC opponent and 2006 National Black College champion North Carolina Central. They are one spot ahead of future Big South foe Stony Brook, who is listed as the third-best squad among FCS independents.

Presbyterian opens its 2007 football season at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Greenville, S.C. against Furman University. PC Football will have its first home tilt of 2007 at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Bailey Memorial Stadium against Pikeville College.

The 2007 season is PC’s transition season into NCAA Division I FCS football. The Blue Hose will begin Big South play with the 2008 campaign.
