PC Football Holds Annual Spring Game

CLINTON, S.C. – In the first spring football game under Bobby Bentley’s direction, Presbyterian’s Grayson Mullins (Columbia, S.C.) racked up 282 total yards, passing for 223 yards and rushing for another 59 at Bailey Memorial Stadium on Saturday morning.

Mullins was 20-for-29 on his passes on the day, throwing for two touchdowns and scampering 53 yards on the ground for another on the offense’s first possession of the spring game.

He was not the only Blue Hose player to make his mark in the spring game.

The wide receivers seemed to especially thrive in Bentley’s spread offense. Terrance Butler (Surfside Beach, S.C.) led the way for the receivers, hauling in five catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Clinton native Chetyuane Reeder put on a display for the Blue Hose faithful, catching 13 balls for 96 yards and one touchdown.

Larry Thomas (Orangeburg, S.C.) was the third Blue Hose receiver in the contest with 90 yards or more receiving, catching six passes for 94 yards and a touchdown.

In total, four Blue Hose wideouts caught touchdowns as Justin Durant (Florence, S.C.) also found the end zone on one of his four catches on the day.

Mullins was not the only proficient quarterback either for the Blue Hose with Tim Webb (Lugoff, S.C.) completing 14 of his 21 pass attempts for 137 yards. Webb also threw for two touchdowns.

Continuing on his strong end to the 2006 campaign, S.J. Worrell (Madison, Ga.) led PC’s ground attack, rushing for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

Middle Linebacker Antwan Thomas (Hawkinsville, Ga.) led the Blue Hose defensive charge, recording a game-high eight tackles and a game-best five solo stops. Thomas also had one tackle-for-loss.

Terrance Blake (Kingsland, Ga.) was stout on the defensive line for PC, tallying six tackles and one sack on the day.

Defensive back Andreas Wright (Columbus, Ga.) picked off two passes on the day.

PC Football’s 2007 Spring Game consisted of two separate segments. The first part was a 65-play scrimmage that placed the offense against the defense in a variety of different circumstances.

The second part was the continuation of a new tradition for PC Football – the Cyrus Bowl, which was played on Tuesday, April 10 at Bailey Memorial Stadium. The Cyrus Bowl was designed by the coaching staff and gave the seniors the chance to draft players and coaches with Bentley and other members of his staff on each sideline.

The two teams were named PC and Blue Hose.

PC was coached by Bentley and they garnered a 29-10 victory on Tuesday over Blue Hose. PC wanted a rematch so a game-situation 15-minute quarter was played after the conclusion of the 65-play Spring game scrimmage.

This time Blue Hose took a narrow 7-6 victory.

Presbyterian opens its 2007 football season at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Greenville, S.C. against Furman University. PC Football will have its first home tilt of 2007 at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Bailey Memorial Stadium against Pikeville College.
