Getting to Know the Blue Hose

Featuring PC Men’s Cross Country Senior Thad Palmer

Palmer led the Blue Hose to a second place finish at the Erskine Invitational to conclude the regular season.  For the first time this season, Palmer was PC’s top performer with a 10th place finish and a personal best time of 28:35.  In the SAC Championships last week, Thad was the third finisher for Presbyterian, which finished the competition fifth as a team.

What is your favorite food?

My mom has always cooked a lot so my favorite place to eat is at home where I can enjoy home cooked meals.  My favorite meal is probably chicken.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I watch a lot of movies in my spare time and also enjoy playing pool.

What is a favorite memory that you remember the most about your last four years at PC?

My favorite memory of this year was our race at Limestone.  I had not beaten my best time in three years and it was a difficult course that we had not yet run.  When I finished the race I learned that I had beaten my personal record by about 50 seconds.  I experienced a runner’s high. It was a great feeling to know that all the hard work had paid off.

Why did you choose PC?

I liked the direction the cross-country program was headed and the other runners that were coming in with me.  I also realized that PC had strong academics.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?

If I could go on vacation anywhere right now it would be to Scotland.  I had the opportunity to visit Scotland last summer through a school trip and I just loved the people, the scenery, and the weather there.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I am not sure where I will be in five years. I’m not stressing about it right now.  I try to take baby steps and the next step is graduating with my degree in mathematics.

What has been your favorite class/teacher?

My favorite teacher is Dr. Beasley who is both my math teacher and my advisor.  My favorite class however was American Military History because it was so interesting and it didn’t hurt that I was taking it pass/fail.

What is something people may not know about you?

I really enjoy hugging people.  You can shake a person’s hand or say hello but giving a hug is really greeting someone.  A hug breaks down any barriers that come between people.

Do you have a favorite movie?

I can’t really come up with one favorite movie because I am a fan of so many different ones.  I watch movies almost every day and I even worked at a theater making very little money so I could view all the movies free.  I am a guy so I like a lot of action and suspense movies.
