The 2000-01 Men’s preseason All-SAC teams were
announced today at the SAC Basketball Press Conference
held at the Catawba Valley Community Center Multipurpose
Facility, home of the 2001 Food Lion SAC Basketball
Tournament, March 2-3.
Tyson, a 6-8 senior, led the Bulldogs in scoring last year
(11.7) and rebounding (5.5). Humphries enters the season
as the preseason pick for SAC Player of the Year by the
Division II Bulletin and honorable mention All-America
by both the Division II Bulletin and Street &
Smith’s. Humphries
led the Blue Hose in rebounding (6.5), field-goal
percentage (.560) and was second in scoring (12.7). Rayford
was the SAC Freshman of the Year after leading the Blue
Hose in scoring (14.7), while shooting 45.1 percent from
the floor and 80.5 percent from the line. Hamilton led
Catawba in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (7.9). The second team is made up of Pat Compton of Tusculum, Kyle
Gribble and Dustin Edwards of Carson-Newman, Alex Fair
of Newberry and Donielle Davis of Mars Hill. Compton was Second Team All-SAC last year after averaging
7.3 points. He was second in the league in 3-point field
goal percentage (43.3). Edwards, a 6-foot-7 sophomore,
led the Eagles in scoring and was named to the All-SAC
Freshman Team. Gribble was second on the team in scoring
(10.7) and was one of the league’s top 3-point
shooters (42.6 percent). Fair played in just six games
last year for the Indians, averaging 7.1 points, before
suffering an injury and missing the remainder of the
