BLUE HOSE MEN’S BASKETBALL WINS HOME OPENER 80-67 OVER ALLEN UNIVERSITY
PC’s Rayford goes for a career-high 33 points

CLINTON, SC — Presbyterian College sophomore guard Chuck Rayford (Greenville, SC) scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 80-67 win over Allen University Saturday night.

The Blue Hose came out on fire, shooting 56.3% from the field in the first half including six-of-13 from three-point land. The Yellow Jackets of Allen University were equal to the task, shooting 54.2% from the field and five-of-nine from beyond the arc. PC staked out a 45-32 lead going into intermission thanks in part to Rayford’s 18 first half points.

PC opened the second half on a 9-6 run to take a 54-38 lead with 15:00 remaining only to see the Yellow Jackets go on a 10-2 run in the next two and half minutes to cut the lead to 56-48 with 12:29 remaining. The Blue Hose kept the lead in the double figures the rest of the way, but could not pull away from Allen due to the hot three-point shooting by the Yellow Jackets.

Allen made one last run at the 2:17 mark to cut the lead to 76-69 as sophomore guard  Glen Collier (Philadelphia, PA) hit his fifth three-pointer of the game. Rayford iced the game with a pair of free throws at the :24 mark to give the Blue Hose the first win of the season.

Rayford led the Blue Hose with a career-high 33 points on 13-of-23 shooting while sophomore center Rod Isom (Anderson, SC) added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior forward D.J. Humphries (Union, SC) in his first game back from the end of the football season, came off the bench to add 10 points and four rebounds.

The Blue Hose outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 37-26 and forced 17 turnovers. PC shot 50.8% from the field for the game while the Yellow Jackets shot 46.9%.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Collier’s team-high 20 points on five-of-eight shooting from beyond the arc while senior guard Dewayne Jenkins (Sumter, SC) added 19 points. Sophomore center Theseus Legare (New York, NY) added 15 points and nine rebounds.

PC improves to 1-0 on the season while Allen drops to 1-3 on the season.
