CATAWBA MOVES INTO FIRST PLACE TIE WITH 79-55 WIN OVER PC
Indians tied for Wingate for SAC title with one game remaining

SALISBURY, NC — Catawba College held Presbyterian to seven first  half field goals en route to a 79-55 win in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym.  The win, coupled with a Wingate loss at Lenoir-Rhyne, pulls the Tribe even atop the Bulldogs in the SAC standings.  Catawba improves to 21-4 overall and 10-3 in the SAC, while Presbyterian falls to 16-9 and 9-4.

After falling behind 5-3 in the early moments, Catawba went on a 10-2  run to grab a 13-7 edge at the 13;10 mark.  Catawba was leading just  19-16 before going on an 13-5 run to end the half to gain a 32-21 edge. The Blue Hose shot only 26% in the opening half to the Tribe's 42%.

The Tribe would hold its double digit margin during the entire second  half, building to its biggest lead of 24 points  in the final seconds.  The Tribe shot nearly 60% in the second half and finished at 50% (30-of-60). Freshman Alex Luyk (Madrid, SPAIN) led the Tribe with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Kevin Petty (Sanford, NC) tallied 18 points. Nedzad Gusic (Pula, CROATIA) added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Presbyterian was led by D.J. Humphries (Union, SC) with 15 points and  eight rebounds, while Chuck Rayford (Greenville, SC) added 10 points. Catawba will close out the regular season at home against Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon, while the Blue Hose will entertain rival Newberry on Saturday night.
