BLUE HOSE SHOOT PAST EAGLES IN SAC MEN’S HOOPS ACTION

PC’s Whittle goes for career-high 20 points 
on six-of-seven from three-point land

CLINTON, SC - Presbyterian College sophomore forward Jeff Whittle (Strasburg, VA) scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 63-53 win over Carson-Newman College in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action.

The first half saw the Blue Hose shoot 54.2% from the field en route to a 30-27 lead. The Eagles stayed close even they struggled to shoot 36.7% from the field by hitting three-of-11 three pointers.

The second half opened with the Blue Hose going on a 23-7 run to push the lead to 53-34 at the with the 10:51 mark. Whittle highlighted the run with a trio of three-pointers.

PC maintained the lead for the rest of half, keeping the Eagles from cutting the lead until the final basket put the game at 63-53.

The Blue Hose continued their torrid pace from the field after halftime, hitting 13-of-19 field goals (68.4%) while the Eagles continued to struggle and shot 26.5% in the second half.

Presbyterian was led by Whittle’s career-high 20 points on seven-of-eight shooting from the field including six-of-seven from beyond the arc. Joining Whittle for scoring honors was senior forward D.J. Humphries (Union, SC) who tallied 11 points and four rebounds while sophomore forward Curtis Stamps (Marion, SC) added 10 points off the bench.

Carson-Newman was led by freshman guard Kevin Felts (Knoxville, TN) who came off the bench to score 12 points with four rebounds while junior guard Drew Hayworth (Gary, TN) tallied 10 points. Sophomore center Dustin Edwards (Erwin, TN) added eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Presbyterian improves to 14-8 overall and 7-3 in the league while the Eagle fall to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in the SAC.
