Senators hold off Presbyterian in non-conference game

GREENWOOD, SC-Led by Victor Sulton's 10 points, nine Lander players got in the scoring column as the Senators defeated Presbyterian College, 61-58, Monday night in a non-conference game in Horne Arena.

In winning its fourth straight game, Lander improves to 10-7 overall. Presbyterian drops to 12-7.

Simon Moore and Tally Loyd added nine points each for the Senators, while Wayne Riley, Travis Lane and Matt Smith had eight each. Smith, who had a team-high five rebounds, had four blocks. Smith is third in NCAA Division II in blocked shots per game.

Presbyterian was led by D.J. Humphries and Rod Isom, who had 14 and 13 points respectively. Curtis Stamps added 11, while Chuck Rayford had 10. Humphries also had a game-high nine rebounds.

Lander, which never trailed in the game, led 32-26 at halftime after bolting out to a 12-4 lead. The Senators shot 41.7 percent from the field, including 6-of-19 from the three-point line.

Presbyterian connected on 43.8 percent of its shots.

Lander travels to USC Spartanburg on Wednesday, Jan. 31 for a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game.
