The second half PC expand the lead to 19 points (40-21)
before the Indians fought back and cut the lead to nine
points at 47-38 with 14:07 remaining. That would be as
close as the Indians would get as the Blue Hose went on
a 15-4 run to take a commanding 62-42 lead with 8:50
remaining. PC kept the lead at 20+ points for the rest
of the game thanks in part to shooting 66.7% from the
field. PC was led by Davis and Touchberry who tallied 10 and 12
points and by Rayfords game-high 16 points. Senior
guard Kevin Campbell (Piedmont,
SC) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10
points. Newberry was led by senior forward Johnathan Stackhouse (Columbia,
SC) who tallied a team-high 10 points and added four
rebounds. Fellow senior center Jason Nance (Indian
Trail, NC) came off the bench to add nine points. The #3 seeded Blue Hose improve to 18-9 on the season while
Newberry ends their season at 8-19. PC advances to the
Food Lion/SAC Tournament semifinals where they will face
the #2 seeded Bulldogs of Wingate University. The
semifinal match will take place Friday, March 2 at 8:00
pm in Hickory, NC at the Catawba Valley Community
Center. This marks the first time the Blue Hose have advanced to
the semifinals since the 1998-99 season. |
