BLUE HOSE BLAST INDIANS 81-61 
IN SAC TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND  

PC’s Davis & Touchberry come off bench 
to each tally career-highs

CLINTON, SC – Presbyterian’s sophomore center Preston Davis and freshman forward Ben Touchberry came off the bench to each tally career-highs as the Blue Hose defeated Newberry College 81-61 in South Atlantic Conference Tournament first round action Tuesday night.

Davis, a native of Charlotte, NC, came up big for the Blue Hose scoring a career-high 10 points and added six rebounds. Touchberry, a native of Blacksburg, SC, also came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points on four-of-five shooting from the field. PC took a 36-20 lead in to halftime after shooting 50.0% from the field and holding the Indians to only 31.8%. Sophomore guard Chuck Rayford (Greenville, SC) led the way in the first half for PC with 10 points by intermission.

The second half PC expand the lead to 19 points (40-21) before the Indians fought back and cut the lead to nine points at 47-38 with 14:07 remaining. That would be as close as the Indians would get as the Blue Hose went on a 15-4 run to take a commanding 62-42 lead with 8:50 remaining. PC kept the lead at 20+ points for the rest of the game thanks in part to shooting 66.7% from the field.

PC was led by Davis and Touchberry who tallied 10 and 12 points and by Rayford’s game-high 16 points. Senior guard Kevin Campbell (Piedmont, SC) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points.

Newberry was led by senior forward Johnathan Stackhouse (Columbia, SC) who tallied a team-high 10 points and added four rebounds. Fellow senior center Jason Nance (Indian Trail, NC) came off the bench to add nine points. 

The #3 seeded Blue Hose improve to 18-9 on the season while Newberry ends their season at 8-19. PC advances to the Food Lion/SAC Tournament semifinals where they will face the #2 seeded Bulldogs of Wingate University. The semifinal match will take place Friday, March 2 at 8:00 pm in Hickory, NC at the Catawba Valley Community Center.

This marks the first time the Blue Hose have advanced to the semifinals since the 1998-99 season.
