NEWBERRY SHOOTS PAST PACERS 81-65 IN SAC/PBC CLASH
Newberry’s Carter leads five in double figures with 18 points

CLINTON, SC — Newberry freshman guard Rashaad Carter (N. Charleston, SC) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Indians to an 81-65 win over USC Aiken in the South Atlantic Conference/Peach Belt Conference Clash Saturday night.

Newberry has redhot from the field, shooting 45.2% for the game including eight-of-16 from three-point land. The Pacers struggled from the field shooting 37.5% while hitting only three-of-23 shots from three-point land.

The Indians jumped out to a 37-25 lead at halftime thanks in part to holding USC Aiken to 27.6% from the field and 15 points from Carter on seven-of-10 shooting.

Newberry pushed their lead to as many as 20 points (72-52) with 5:50 remaining before USC Aiken was able to cut the lead to 15 points at 79-64 with 2:04 remaining. The Pacers could not get any closer down the stretch. The Indians dominated the boards 47-38 including 17 offensive rebounds.

The Indians were led by Carter’s 18 points while junior forward Alex Fair (Kershaw, SC) added 15 points, and senior guard Ali Patton (York, SC), senior guard Derrick Durham (Simpsonville, SC), and junior center Theron Candler (Columbia, SC) each scored 11 points.

The Pacers were led by senior guard Dain Brown (Sydney, Australia) who scored 13 points while junior forward Minda Jokulis (Silute, Lithuania) added 10 points.

The Indians improve to 2-3 on the season while USC Aiken falls to 1-3.
