HANKINS NETS CAREER-HIGH 30, #3 BULLDOGS SWEEP BLUE HOSE

Wingate, NC--Wingate University sophomore guard Djuan Hankins (Roanoke, Va.) scored a career-high 30 points and hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to send the game into overtime as the Bulldogs beat Presbyterian College 90-85 in Cuddy Arena on the Wingate campus. Wingate’s women’s team beat Presbyterian earlier on a last-second shot.

Hankins scored Wingate’s last six points on free throws his only free throw attempts of the night. Senior forward Jonathan Tyson (Matthews, N.C.) pumped in 23 points and led the team with eight rebounds. Junior guard Lorinza Harrington (Wagram, N.C.) was the third Bulldog in double-figures with 12 points and seven assists.

Presbyterian sophomore guard Chuck Rayford led all scorers with 33 points, tying his career high. Rayford notched a double double with 10 rebounds. Senior forward D.J. Humphries and sophomore forward Jeff Whittle knocked in 17 and 14 points, respectively. Rayford went 5-for-10 from behind the three-point arc, while Whittle was 4-of-11.

Wingate’s victory marks its third 20-win season in a row and the fourth overall in school history. Wingate ups its ledger to 20-1 overall, 8-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. They will travel to Newberry College on Saturday night, tipping-off at 8 p.m. Presbyterian falls to 13-8, 6-3 in conference play. The Blue Hose will host Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
