PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL RELEASES 2001-02 SCHEDULE 
13 Home dates and a trip to Hawaii highlight Blue Hose schedule

CLINTON, SC — Thirteen home dates and a trip to Hawaii highlight Presbyterian College’s 2001-02 26-game regular season men’s basketball schedule announced today by 13th-year head coach Gregg Nibert.

The Blue Hose are coming off last season’s 19-10 campaign which included a third place finish in the South Atlantic Conference regular season with a 10-6 league mark and runner-up finish for the Food Lion/SAC Tournament title.

Presbyterian will open the season with an exhibition game versus the Columbia Sharkheads on November 9 before officially beginning the 2001-02 slate at home November 17 when they host defending Peach Belt Conference champion, Armstrong Atlantic State University. November has the Blue Hose hosting Allen University on the 17th and Benedict College on the 21st. The Blue Hose travel to Aiken, SC to the SAC/Peach Belt Clash on Nov. 23-24 and finish the month with a road game versus Anderson College on the 26th.

During December, the Blue Hose play Erskine College on December 1 in Due West, SC, home games versus USC Spartanburg (12/4) and Shaw University (12/8) and a road game at Lander University on December 12. After the Christmas holidays, PC leaves to Hawaii with games versus Hawaii-Pacific University (12/28) and Chaminade University (12/29).

The Blue Hose open South Atlantic Conference play in January with road games versus Tusculum College on January 5 and Wingate University on Jan. 9. PC returns home for a pair of SAC road games versus Carson-Newman College (1/12) and Mars Hill College (1/16) before road games versus Lenoir-Rhyne College (1/19) and Catawba College (1/23). The month ends with the Blue Hose hosting Newberry College on January 26.

The Blue Hose open February with two straight home games versus Tusculum College (2/2) and Wingate University (2/6) before hitting the road for a pair of games against Carson-Newman College (2/12) and Mars Hill College (2/16). PC returns home to host Lenoir-Rhyne College (2/16) and Catawba College (2/20) before wrapping up the regular season with a trip to Newberry, SC to face the Indians on February 23.

The top four seeds will host the opening round games of the 200102 South Atlantic Conference Tournament on February 26 while the final four will return to Hickory, NC on the campus of the Catawba Valley Community College for the third year in a row on March 1-2.

“I am very excited about this season’s schedule,” said Nibert. “This schedule is one of the toughest were have ever played and I feel it will be a great test for our team every night.”

Led by Nibert, who owns an 211-139 career record in 12 seasons with the Blue Hose, PC returns nine letterwinners and three starters from a year ago. Head Coach Gregg Nibert enters his 13th-year atop the Blue Hose men’s basketball program.

The Blue Hose are led by All-SAC performer, junior guard Chuck Rayford. Rayford, a native of Greenville, SC, averaged 16.7 points and 3.1 assists while shooting 36.9% from three-point land. Joining Rayford is returning junior starters forward Jeff Whittle and center Rod Isom. Whittle, a native of Strasburg, VA, averaged 7.7 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 37.7% from three-point land. Isom, a native of Anderson, SC, had a breakout year averaging 9.1 points, 7.0 rebounds while shooting 62.5%% from the field.
