PIONEERS SHOOT PAST BLUE HOSE 66-57
TC’s Compton scores a game-high 22 points in Pioneer victory

CLINTON, S.C. — Tusculum College’s junior guard Pat Compton (Fairfield, OH) scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Pioneers to a 66-57 win over Presbyterian College in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers opened the game on a 12-7 run as Compton hit the first five points for Tusculum. The Pioneer lead was extended to 11 points (23-12) at the 6:15 mark before Presbyterian closed the score to 28-23 entering halftime thanks in part to a 13-5 Blue Hose run.

Tusculum was redhot from three-point range in the first half, hitting six-of-11 three-pointers while holding Presbyterian to 33.3% from the field.

The second half saw the Blue Hose close the lead to one point three times in the first two minutes, but the Pioneers pushed the lead back to six points at 45-37 with 9:08 remaining in the game. The Pioneers increased the lead to double figures at 13 points (64-51) with 2:50 left in the game.

Tusculum hit six-of-eight free throws in the last four minutes of the game to keep the Blue Hose from completing a comeback. The Pioneers shot 45.8% for the game including nine-of-18 from three-point range and held Presbyterian to 33.3% from the field.  

The Pioneers were led by Compton’s 22 points while junior guard Ben Carpenter (Lebanon, VA) came off the bench for 13 points.

Presbyterian was led by junior center Rod Isom (Anderson, SC) who tallied 13 points and five rebounds while sophomore guard Andrew Dellinger (Mauertown, VA) added 10 points.

Tusculum improves to 10-10 overall and 4-4 in the SAC while Presbyterian falls to 9-11 overall, 2-6 in league play.
