WINGATE BULLDOGS HOLD ON FOR A 99-87 OVERTIME WIN OVER BLUE HOSE IN SAC MEN’S BASKETBALL ACTION 
Wingate’s Harrington goes for career-high 31 points in victory

CLINTON, S.C. — Wingate University’s senior guard Lorinza Harrington (Wagram, NC) scored a career-high 31 points including nine in overtime to lift the Bulldogs to a 99-87 win over Presbyterian College in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Wednesday night.

Harrington took over the overtime period with nine-of-10 shooting at the free throw line. For the night, Harrington hit 17-of-19 free throws and dished out nine assists.

Presbyterian trailed 36-35 at halftime despite shooting 42.3% from the field and hitting 10-of-11 free throws in the first half. Wingate knocked down four-of-10 three pointers and shot 45.2% from the field.

The Blue Hose were down by seven points (44-37) with 18:04 remaining, but went on a 10-2 run in the next four minutes to retake the lead at 47-46 at the 14:17 mark. The Blue Hose held the lead and pushed it to as many as six points (71-65) with 3:28 left, but the Bulldogs fought back and tied the game at 73-73 with only 1:22 remaining.

Harrington and PC’s junior center Rod Isom (Anderson, SC) each hit a pair of free throws to knot the game at 75-75 and Harrington missed a jumper at the end of regulation as the game went to overtime.

Joining Harrington for scoring honors was sophomore guard Keenan Dunn (Charlotte, NC) who tallied 19 points with six rebounds and six assists while senior center Marcus Thompson (Southern Pines, NC) added 17 points and five boards.

Presbyterian was led by Isom who tallied a career-high 26 points and added 11 rebounds while fellow juniors Chuck Rayford (Greenville, SC) added 19 points and four assists and Jeff Whittle (Strasburg, VA) added 21 points and six rebounds. Isom connected on 12-of-13 free throws while Rayford was 11-of-12 from the line.

For the game, Presbyterian hit 28-of-33 free throws for 84.8% while Wingate equalled the hot shooting from the charity stripe going 22-of-25 for 88.0%.

Wingate improves to 19-4 overall and 7-2 in the SAC while Presbyterian falls to 9-12 overall and 2-7 in league play.
