Saturday, December 1, 2001 PRESBYTERIAN DEFEATS ERSKINE IN MEN'S BASKETBALL 64-56 DUE WEST, SC -- Presbyterian took advantage of cold Erskine shooting to take a 64-56 win Saturday that ruined the home opener for the Flying Fleet. Guard Chuck Rayford had 20 points, including 12-of-13 free throws, to lead the Blue Hose to their sixth win in seven games. Preston Davis with 11 points was the only other Presbyterian player in double figures. Freshman Vony Rivers had 18 points and sophomore Bobby Isom had 14 for the Fleet. Erskine, shooting only 34.5 percent from the floor and 46 percent form the free throw line, fell to 1-3 for the season. Presbyterian took a 33-24 halftime lead and stretched it to 52-37 with 3:55 remaining. Erskine mounted a rally behind Rivers' 10 points in the final two minutes, but Presbyterian put the game away from the free throw line. The Blue Hose will return to action Tuesday, December 4th as they play host to USC Spartanburg at 7:00 pm at the Ross E. Templeton Physical Education Center. |
