COLUMBIA SHARKHEADS COME FROM BEHIND  TO DEFEAT PRESBYTERIAN 73-70 IN EXHIBITION ACTION 
Former Blue Hose All-American Bret Jones hits three-pointer with :01 remaining for win

CLINTON, SC — Former Blue Hose All-American Bret Jones hit a three-pointer with :01 remaining to lift the Columbia Sharkheads to a 73-70 win over Presbyterian College in exhibition men’s basketball action.

Jones broke a 70-70 tie with the three-pointer after the Sharkheads trailed in the game at halftime.

Presbyterian broke open a close first half at the 3:12 mark on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Andrew Dellinger (Mauertown, VA) to give the Blue Hose a 32-30 lead. PC used a 8-0 run in the next minute to take a 40-30 lead with 2:09 remaining. A pair of free throws by junior center Rod Isom (Anderson, SC) with :02 seconds remaining to give the Blue Hose a 42-35 halftime lead.

The Blue Hose pushed the lead to double digits twice early second half including at 52-42 with 14:58 remaining. The Sharkheads began their comeback at that point and used a 11-0 run in the next three minutes to retake the lead at 53-52 with 11:24 remaining on a jumper by former Blue Hose standout Brian Franklin. The Sharkheads held the lead until the 5:09 mark when a pair of Dellinger free throws gave the Blue Hose the lead at 66-64. The Sharkheads retook the lead on a jumper by former Benedict standout Fred Watson 69-66 with 2:58 remaining. PC took their final lead at 70-69 with 1:04 remaining on a layup by junior forward Jeff Whittle (Strasburg, VA). Jones took over for the Sharkheads at that point, tying the game on a free throw with :49 second remaining, setting up his last second heroics.

Franklin led four Sharkheads in double figures with 17 points while Jones and Watson each scored 13 points. Rounding out the double figure scorers was former Marshall University standout Barry Kincaid who scored 14 points. Former Blue Hose standout Eric Burrow tallied 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Presbyterian was led by junior forward Curtis Stamps (Marion, SC) who tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds while junior guard Chuck Rayford (Greenville, SC) added 13 points. Rounding out the double figure scorers for the Blue Hose was Whittle with 12 points and Dellinger with 10 points off the bench.

Presbyterian opens the regular season next Saturday night at home when they host the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic State University, tip-off set for 7:00 pm in the Templeton Center.
