PACERS OUTLAST PC IN DOUBLE OT 67-66

AIKEN, SC — The USC Aiken Pacers (3-0) continued their perfect start to the 2001-02 season as they handed Presbyterian (4-1) their first loss of the season by the score of 67-66 in double overtime in the final game of the Peach Belt/South Atlantic Conference Clash.  In the first game of the night, Lander (2-2) kept Newberry (0-5) winless by a score of 60-52.

The Pacers led 24-19 at halftime and led by as many as 10 with 10 minutes left, but the Blue Hose stormed back, scoring 11 in a row.  PC was up by three when Michael Tyler's missed three-point shot was rebounded by Adam Waskavitz and dished out to Eric Dugans who sunk a three to send the game into the first OT tied at 45.

In the first overtime, Clint Keown hit the first of two free throws to take a two-point lead with four seconds to play, but Chuck Rayford drove the length of the court and connected on a lay-up to tie the game at 58-58.

With seven lead changes and six ties in the final overtime, the Pacers were down by one with five seconds to play when Tyler stepped to the line and convert on both free throws and put PC away for good.

Keown led all scorers with 29 points and six steals in 46 minutes of play.  The Blue Hose had four players in double-digits led by Rayford's 15 and Andrew Dellinger's 14.

USCA struggled from the charity strip, hitting on only 55 percent while PC hit their free throws 83.3 percent of the time.  Both teams struggled from the field with the Pacers at 37.9 and Presbyterian at 40.4 percent.
