PC TAKES DOWN LANDER 72-66 IN THE FINAL DAY OF THE SAC/PEACH BELT CLASH

NEWBERRY, SC – After jumping out to a 14-point lead at the half the Blue Hose had to fight to the end to get the win over Lander University 72-66.  Blue Hose senior point guard Chuck Rayford (Greenville, SC) scored 21 points and went 8-8 from the line to help lead Presbyterian to a 4-1 start.

The Blue Hose dominated Lander (1-1) in the first half, pressing the ball and forcing the Senators into turning the ball over multiple times. Lander was only able to muster four field goals and one three pointer the entire first half as Presbyterian poured on the offense with Rayford leading the charge and junior guard Andrew Dellinger (Mauertown, VA) adding 13 points in the game.

In the second half though, Lander took charge as junior guard Adrian Penland (Flowery Branch, GA) sunk five buckets in the second half and led the Senator charge with 19 points while going 7-7 from the line for the evening.  The Senator defense kept the Blue Hose offense quiet for six minutes and climbed to within six points of PC.  A three-pointer by Lander junior forward Damien Goodman (Lynchburg, SC) with 33 second left in the game made the score 65-62, but the Blue Hose held onto the lead for the win with key free throws and finished the night 20-23 from the charity stripe.

Presbyterian will take on Allen University Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in their first home game of the season.  Lander will play next Tuesday on the road against Winston-Salem at 7:30 p.m.
