BLUE
HOSE DEFEAT PACERS IN THRILLER
NEWBERRY,
SC
– Senior point guard Chuck
Rayford (Greenville, SC) led Presbyterian with
21 points to help lift them over USC Aiken 69-67, and
moved into 10th place all time in the SAC
scoring list. The
Blue Hose improve to 3-1 on the season while the Pacers
drop their first game of the season.
PC
shot 50% from the field and the defense kept the Pacer
offense to just 39% shooting in the first half. Senior
forward Rod Isom
(Anderson, SC) went 4-5 from the field as well as 2-3
from the line in the first half as the Blue Hose jumped
out to at 35-27 lead at the half. The Pacers junior forward Minda Statkus (Mazeikai,
Lithuania) helped to keep USC Aiken in the game shooting
3-4 from the field as well as hauling in three rebounds
in the first half.
In
the second half USC Aiken came out firing and went on a
10-4 scoring run to cut the Blue Hose lead to one at
39-38. The
Pacers offense was led by junior guard Bryant
Lattimer (Columbia, SC) who went 4-5 in the second
half from the three point line and scored a team high 18
points in the game.
With three minutes left in the game the USC Aiken
pulled to within two points of PC but was unable to get
past the Blue Hose defense and free throw shooting, PC
went 6-8 from the stripe and 69% on the evening.
USC
Aiken and PC will be back in action tomorrow night in
the final day of the SAC/Peach Belt Clash in Newberry,
SC. The
Blue Hose will take on Lander University at 6:00 p.m.
with the Pacers facing off against Newberry College at
8:00 p.m.
